SpokenFor Gospel Band of Texas is one of the most prolific gospel ministries to ever grace the stages of Texas churches and abroad. With a mix of classic southern gospel, contemporary Christian, and country-bluegrass arrangements, SpokenFor brings a feeling of change to every place they sing. There is more than just the music in their concerts, and folks who attend will tell you that! There is a part of every concert that leaves you wanting more. You can feel the Spirit move as they speak. They were awarded Group of the Year in 2021 by the Gospel Music Artists Association of Texas. Ministering together since 2001, this dynamic group has stayed the course through all of life's challenges. Its members are Dawn Wills, Vicki Miller, Charisse Jones and Richard Mathews.
Dawn was born in Dallas, Texas. She began studying guitar and piano at eight years of age, focusing on finger-style picking. She was determined to turn her classical music training into her own style of gospel music. Dawn attended SMU, studied opera and film production, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema Arts and Music. After college, she performed locally as a singer and guitarist until traveling overseas to Australia and New Zealand to perform in concert venues, churches and prisons. She has been a studio musician and guitar instructor for decades, encouraging her students to become worship leaders. She was awarded Group Vocalist of the Year in 2018 from the Southern Gospel Music Association of Texas. Dawn has three children, all talented musicians, and she lives in McKinney, Texas.
Vicki was born and raised in Garland, Texas. Married to Jay, she also has three children. She began singing as a young girl, performing throughout her school years in both school and church. She began her career in music performing in contests and ensembles and singing in churches. Although Vicki won first place in a local Star Search contest in 1995, her first love has always been southern gospel music. She is a first-call vocalist for several funeral homes in the Dallas area, comforting grieving families with her golden voice in her special ministry to those experiencing loss.
Charisse also grew up in Garland, Texas, listening to her dad's southern gospel trio and learning to sing close harmonies. Through her youth she sang in church and took advantage of opportunities to travel on mission trips spreading the gospel through song with her youth choir. Charisse performed at the Plummer Family Country Music Show in Branson, Missouri for several years. She and her husband, Gary, have two beautiful daughters who are both musically gifted. She works as a pastor's assistant and worship team member in Kaufman, Texas. Charisse joined the group in 2010.
Richard is a profoundly talented guitarist who joined the group in 2016. He played in a popular and successful rock band in his youth and has known Jesus as his Savior throughout his life. Today, he is a successful businessman and dedicated believer who puts God first in all he does. His love for the Lord and leadership are strong forces within the group, keeping their focus on prayerful ministry with the goal of being vessels of God's love under a strong spiritual anointing. He and his wife, Deline, have two children, and live in Garland, Texas.
