Hi Classmates!

The 20th reunion held in Louisville was a humid weekend full of fun! We had supper at Buckhead's Restaurant, in a room that opened up to the Ohio River for great viewing of the July 4th fireworks. Other activities were a dinner Friday evening where all the classmates gave a short recap of their lives since graduation. Dawn had a DVD made with pictures from our years at RVA and from previous reunions. Some of us went to a minor league baseball game, some people went to the Slugger museum, the zoo, golfing, and other activities.

During our dinner, people wanted to start making plans for the 25th reunion. My brother graciously agreed to keep up the webpage we used for this past reunion, so we can start getting ideas about the next one.

First of all, we need to determine when and where it will be held. At this point, we are designating "summer of '07" as the time of year. We don't have a holiday to work around this time as July 4th, the only summer holiday, will be on a Wednesday. Tamara & Mary Lou have offered to host it in southern California. Other people have suggested having it in Toronto, Canada; a coastal city somewhere; Louisville, KY; Las Vegas, NV, or Dallas, TX. So, at this point, we have 4 or 5 places to choose from. We need to consider airfare, hotel, car expenses, ease of accessibility with airports, extra-curricular activities, those who might be driving from their homes (we had a lot of people driving at this reunion), etc. The hotel will need to have a restaurant and provide a hospitality room that we can use 24/7 to hang out in & visit whenever we want. We would probably have a dinner one night, so we would need a banquet room with a meal prepared for us. There will need to be other activities available close to the hotel for those who want to sightsee etc.

Byron and Jon brought up something for us to discuss as a possible class opportunity. Byron received an email from a contact at Rosslyn, stating that some alumni are getting together as a class and making a contribution to the school on behalf of their class. Below is an excerpt from the email:

"Many of you have expressed appreciation for the impact that Rosslyn, or your time of growing up and/or living overseas, has had on you.  We want to present you with some options that you might want to consider in "giving back" to Rosslyn.  We would like to see you view your giving as an opportunity to celebrate your faith, and God's faithfulness to you.  We have chosen four options for you to consider:
1. Remodeling and construction of Kenyan support staff on-campus housing.
2. Theater-style seats for the new auditorium.
3. Purchase, or donation, of quality tools for use by the school's mechanics and carpenters.
4. Funding for non-salary related expenses to provide continually improving services to the former students and staff. "

The message went on to discuss each option in detail, and the estimated costs. If we chose to make a contribution to RVA as a class, we would need to get a contact from RVA or AIM to learn about various projects that we could select from. This is something else we can discuss.

We now have time to find more of our classmates so the 25th reunion can be even bigger than this one was. I'm keeping track of our classmates contact list, so, as the years go by, if you move, change phone numbers or email addresses, please let me know so you still get all the information you need, to plan for the reunion. If you don't want to email me with the info, it would be helpful if you will post your information on our class list on the RVA webpage. A few times per year I'll send out updates/changes if you want, so you can update your own lists. If you know updated information on any of our classmates that I don't have, please let me know so we can get them involved too. I've noticed that there are several classmates listed on the classmates.com webpage, but not on www.rva.org page. As some of you know, you can't contact people on the classmates webpage unless you pay their annual fee. As you are in touch with people, encourage them to either sign up on the rva.org page, or to send their information to me.

Tamara has set up a private class page we can use to communicate with each other. It would be a good place to discuss these different options/ideas so that everyone is getting information and not just me. If you are not enrolled on the page yet, please email Tamara at: joslady@aol.com & she will invite you. For those of you already on the page, please remember to check it for new additions. If you've forgotten your screen name and password, email Tamara, she can delete your old information & re-invite you. This page would be a good place for those of you wanting to host the reunion to promote your city! If you'll still email your decision to me, I'll keep track of it & let everyone know the result. Let's plan on making the location decision by end of April, that way those classmates we don't have email addresses for can participate too.

So, what I need from you is:

1. Where & when would you like to have the reunion?
2. Would you be interested in contributing to a project at RVA?
3. What are you interested in doing/having available to you at the reunion?
4. Anything else???

Email Valerie with your responses by the end of April & I will let you know the results. I will update this page occasionally with new information, so check back every once in a while.
